The Capital Hotel seeks a Server for the Capital Bar & Grill. You must have a minimum of two years’ service experience in an upscale restaurant. Please review other requirements below.

Pay rate is $4/hour plus gratuities.

Include but are not limited to:

  • Check assigned station for cleanliness and completeness, correct problems, complete assigned side duties
  • Maintain full menu knowledge and wine list offerings
  • Note and accept responsibility for large tables, special requests, celebrations, house charges, and VIPs assigned to your station
  • Concisely respond to any food questions the guest may pose
  • Taken a written record of the guest’s order and suggestive sell each course with each party member to balance the meal and timing experience
  • Ensure prompt delivery of food from kitchen to the dining room
  • Suggestively sell wine options to the table
  • Work as a team with the Server Assistant when presenting food to the table
  • Pre-bus tables between courses removing extra glass, silverware and trash
  • Present an accurately totaled check in an appropriate check presenter at the request of the dinner host or at the end of the meal. Retrieve the completed check from the table before guest departure to ensure guest signature & merchant copy remains
  • Continue table maintenance by refilling beverages and removing unnecessary items until guest departure
  • Reset stations at the end of service for use at the next meal period
  • Complete end of shift paperwork & tip reporting, make cash drops according to hotel accounting procedure, distribute reports to appropriate drop point
  • Attend all pre-shift meetings

Skills and Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma is preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years previous serving experience in an upscale restaurant
  • Punctual attendance according to hotel policy
  • Ability to work in and promote a safe and congenial working environment
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Ability to interact with guests and fellow associates in a courteous, friendly and discreet manner
  • Full knowledge of upscale service, service terms and techniques
  • Must have strong attention to detail
  • Ability to consistently lift and carry a server tray weighing approximately 50 pounds
  • Ability to work with mild chemicals, for example: cleaners and disinfectants
  • Ability to work in temperature extremes, including handling hot/cold utensils & equipment
  • Ability to stand and walk on a continuous basis for extended periods of time
  • Ability to use standard restaurant equipment, for example: coffee and beverage machines
  • Working knowledge of Micros POS system preferred
  • Ability to handle and be accountable for cash & credit transactions
  • Must be able to work positively while under pressure
  • Ability to maintain positive morale and professional attitude
  • Required to pass our background and driving record check
