I have always been creative but finding time has been a problem. However, thanks to the Life Drawing group Friday sessions, over the past 6 years I have managed to rediscover painting and drawing.
The Life Drawing group is inspirational and I have met many wonderful and interesting people through this association who approach their art with enthusiasm and enjoy sharing their knowledge and ideas.
Apart from my love for figure and portrait work I like to paint still life in a fairly modern stylistic way by focusing on how I feel when I look at the objects rather than on realism. Colour is important to me and so I take time to bring the objects alive by using multiple glazes. A bit hit and miss at times but you can’t learn without experimenting. It usually works out in the end.
I am also interested in depicting movement by painting dancers using loose simple brush marks. I use photos as the basis for this but deconstruct them so that the detail is kept to a minimum. It can be difficult to know when to stop which is another thing that you learn as you go along.
Overall I like to tackle different subjects and use different techniques. In the future I hope to have more time to experiment and to improve my art. But in the meantime I hope you enjoy my efforts to date.
